Not only love to man’s heart but also love to English can go through the stomach. Here are recipes for fantastic, healthy and easy to make desserts which were a part of the refreshment at our summer course for adults A2. To make it a little easier you can check all the new vocab in an English – Czech glossary and practice them on Quizletu.

MIRABELLE DELIGHT
Ingredients:
Mirabelles
Sour cream
Brown sugar or honey
Vanilla essence or vanilla
Ladyfinger cookies
- Whisk the sour cream with sugar/honey and vanilla essence.
- Put the ladyfinger cookies into creme-brulee style bowls.
- Cut the mirebelles, take out the pits and slice.
- Make layers of sour cream, mirabelles and ladyfinger cookies.
- Finish with a layer of sour cream and decorate with mirabelles and some mint.
QUARK AND BERRIES JAR DESSERT
Ingredients:
Quark
Honey
Oatmeal
Wallnut liqueur (optional)
Berries: gooseberries, red and black currants, blueberrries, raspberries, blackberries – just whatever you can find in your garden
Wallnuts (optional)
Strawberry syrup (optional)
- Whisk the quark with honey
- Put some oats in a jar/glass and flavour it with the wallnut liquer
- Make layers of quark and fruit and insert a wallnut here and there.
- Finish with a layer of quark and decorate it with fruit and mint.
- Pour some strawberry syrup on top.
QUARK-AVOCADO SUMMER FRUIT MAGIC
Ingredients:
Quark
Sour cream (optional)
Honey
Oat meal
Wallnut liqueur or strawberry syrup (optional)
Summer fruit – berries, peaches, mirabelles etc.
Avocado
- Whisk the quark and sour cream with honey
- Whisk the avocado with honey
- Put the oat meal into a jar/glass and flavour with the liqueur or syrup
- Make layers of quark/sour cream, fruit and avocado.
- Finish with a layer of quark/sour cream or avocado and sprinkle with oat meal.
- Decorate with berries, oats and mint
BLUEBERRY ZUCCHINI-BUTTERMILK CAKE
Ingredients (for a round mould):
2 eggs
¼ cup brown sugar
1/5 package vanilla sugar or a dash of vanilla essence
¼ cup oil
¼ cup buttermilk
1 cup flour
½ cup finely grated zucchini
½ package baking powder
blueberries
butter, flour, oat meal and suggar fot the topping
- Beat the eggs and sugar
- Slowly add the oil and butter milk
- Add the zucchini and the rest of the ingredients
- Pour into a mould lined with baking paper
- Cover with blueberries and the topping (drobenka)
- Bake at 170 – 190C for 20 – 30 min
RHUBARB AND BERRIES TART
Ingredients for the pastry:
1 ½ cups flour
¼ cup brown sugar
1/8 tsp salt)
8 tbs butter
1 egg yolk beaten with 2 tbs cream
- Combine the dry ingredients
- Add butter and work it in with your hands or with a food processor
- Add the rest and knead until smooth
- Put in the fridge for an hour or so
Ingredients for the filling:
3 – 4 big rhubarb stalks
a bowl of garden berries – gooseberies, currants, blueberries, mirabelles atc
Brown sugar
Vanilla pudding
- Clean the rhubarb and cut into even pieces
- Boil it with a dash of water and sugar until mushy, and let cool down
- Add the berries and pudding (and more sugar if necessary)
- Roll out the pastry and put it into a mould or a baking tray
- Pour in the fruit pudding mixture
- Make topping from 1 part flour, 1 part oatmeal, 1 part brown sugar and 1 part butter (you can add a dash of cinnamon).
- Crumble the topping all over the tart.
- Bake at 160-170 C until the filling is quite firm on top (30 – 40 min) – it depends on the size.
